Major Recalls from Kia & Hyundai!


In today’s auto news, Kia and Hyundai have announced a major recall of SUV’s affecting popular models from both brands. Combined the recalls affect 531,000 plus vehicles!

The biggest part of the recall focuses on the Kia Soul. 379,000 vehicles are included in this recall. Models from 2012 to 2016 with a 1.6 liter engine are affected by this recall.

  • The problem: High exhaust gas temperatures can damage the catalytic converters, which can cause abnormal combustion and damage pistons and connecting rods. A failed connecting rod can pierce the engine block and cause oil leaks that can cause fires.

  • The fix: Dealers will update the software at no charge.

The NHTSA number for this recall is #19V120 and the Kia internal recall number is SC176. Kia did not advise when owners would be notified. Consumers can call 1-800-333-4542 for more information.

The next vehicle included in this major recall is the Hyundai Tucson SUV. 120,000 - 2011 thru 2013 models are affected by this recall.

  • The problem: Oil pans may have been improperly sealed during engine production. As a result, an oil leak could develop and lead to engine damage, the engine stalling, or even a fire.

  • The fix: Hyundai has not announced a fix for this issue.

Hyundai plans on sending notifications to owner starting on March 29th. If you believe your vehicle is included in this recall, please call 1-855-371-9460. The NHTSA number for this recall is #19V063 and the internal Hyundai recall number is #181.

Also included in this major recall is the Kia Sportage SUV. 32,296 of the 2011 to 2012 models are affected.
